So, you’ve been convinced and want to have a small wedding ceremony in Old Orchard Beach, Maine?! Look no further! Today I am sharing our wedding day details to help spark some inspiration for your big day.
Our Wedding Day: August 12, 2017
Location: Old Orchard Beach, Maine
Old Orchard Beach is a special place to both of us for many reasons. It just seemed like a no brainer to get married where we already enjoy our home away from home.
Lodging: Local Seasonal Campsites & Campgrounds!
Mr. Geek and I already paid for the season. My brother and dad were the sites around the corner. My mom and stepdad rented an RV and got a site for the weekend. Mr. Geek’s parents rented a cottage/park model at Wagon Wheel RV Resort—and it was also the perfect location for our welcome BBQ the night before!
One of my must-haves for our wedding day was to have a campfire after dinner. Mr. Geek and I met at a fire at a friend’s house. We were ready to go for campfires and marshmallows the whole weekend!
Venue: Joseph’s By The Sea, Old Orchard Beach, Maine.
BEST. DECISION. EVER.
We are so grateful to the staff at Joseph’s by the Sea for creating such a beautiful experience for our wedding and our guests! Planning with Louise and Erica was a breeze.
Our small wedding ceremony was during dinner hours on the back lawn and our dinner was upstairs** with the most perfect view I could have dreamed of on our wedding day.
**As of Summer 2018, just in time for our one year wedding anniversary and their 50th Anniversary, this banquet/private room has been renovated into a new bar area and expanded rooftop deck for incredible views. It is the best spot downtown!
Buffy, our server, was incredible and went above and beyond for us and our guests–especially our toddler nephew. She pulled out puzzles and games to keep the little man entertained which allowed my brother and sister in law to enjoy our wedding. I am so grateful she was there for us.
The food? Best food we have ever had. We were so confident in our choice with Joseph’s that Mr. Geek and I didn’t even need to schedule a tasting before booking our wedding here. The other reviews speak for themselves. They did not disappoint. Our guests RAVED over the calamari describing it as “better than The North End” or “the best calamari I’ve ever had.” They also asked if they could lick the bowl of their lobster bisque.
We have already booked our reservation to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. Our guests have also returned to enjoy Joseph’s By The Sea. I am so grateful that we got married in a special place for everyone to keep enjoying for years to come.
The Cake: Bam Bam Bakery, Portland, Maine
Working with Tina, the owner, was literally a cakewalk! She has an incredible welcoming personality and understood our needs perfectly. I brought in a picture of a cake I had pinned for YEARS on Pinterest and they were able to interpret that photo into an even more gorgeous beach cake!
The flavors: white cake with lavender frosting!
We knew this would be a risky choice knowing some of the picky eating habits of some of our guests, but we all enjoyed that cake and cupcakes for days after.
Bam Bam Bakery is our go-to place for goodies Mr. Geek can eat when we’re up here in Maine.
Wedding Officiant: Our Family Friend
What started as a passing joke turned into a reality. A year or so before we got engaged, we were sitting at a campfire in Maine (of course!) with our good friends Mandy and Brian. Brian casually mentioned that he was a notary public and could marry us. At the time we laughed–it just wasn’t on our radar yet.
Fast forward to planning our wedding in Old Orchard Beach–it just seemed like a no brainer!
Mr. Geek and I chose a non denominational ceremony. Mandy, helped write the “script” for the ceremony and hosted the funniest wedding “rehearsal” I have ever been a part of–with their children standing in for some of our family members.
They were both major contributors in making our wedding day extra special. It was an honor to have one of our favorite couples organize and perform the ceremony.

Now introducing the person that made us look so pretty in our wedding photos:
Mr. Geek’s crazy talented friend, Mackenzie Hennessy, took AMAZING photos of our wedding. We are so grateful she agreed to capture our special day. As you can see, she did an incredible job!
I cannot wait to go back to Joseph’s By The Sea tonight and reminisce about the incredible celebration of our life together!
