When we moved into our first home, we were ready to jump in and make it our own. Mr. Geek knew we had a lot of work ahead of us with our fixer upper (I don’t think I had a realistic concept). It would take long days and nights--after we come home from our full time jobs. Mr. Geek recommended we cook all of our meals for the week and have them ready to go, lunches and dinners. He brought up the point that after a long day at work, then jumping right into our house project--we’re not going to want to stop and cook. We’re also weren't going to keep ordering takeout every night. I … [Read more...] about How We Cook For the Entire Week

If Walls Could Talk: Memories From Our First Home
In July 2015, Mr. Geek and I purchased our first house in my hometown in Central Massachusetts. We were over the moon excited to take the big step in home ownership. We were able to purchase a house in one of the best family neighborhoods in the city. I’m not exaggerating when I say I dreamed of living here. This is also exactly what Mr. Geek envisioned for our first home: quiet neighborhoods where kids can ride bikes and play, a decent sized yard, and minimal traffic. It was also an ideal commuter location right off the highway and a new stop for the commuter line into Boston was … [Read more...] about If Walls Could Talk: Memories From Our First Home
Two Cookbooks We Cannot Live Without
When Mr. Geek told me he wanted to change his diet, I had no idea where to start. Today I am sharing my two favorite cook books. They are my go-to guides for recipes for Mr. Geek. The Allergen-Free Baker's Handbook I wasn’t much of a cook in my late teens and early twenties, but I sure loved to bake! This cookbook was a gift from my mother. Before Mr. Geek was even a blip on the radar, my brother had tried to cut gluten out of his diet to help him with headaches. To help support his decision but still satisfy the entire family’s sweet tooth, she bought three copies of The Allergen-Free … [Read more...] about Two Cookbooks We Cannot Live Without
5 Things We Learned When We Rescued A Dog
When Mr. Geek and I discussed getting married, he wanted to get an idea of what kind of engagement rings I liked. “Don’t waste your money,” I said “I don’t even know if I want an engagement ring--what about an engagement dog?!” We needed a furbaby. A month before, we put down my 17 year old cat, Autumn. I had her since I was ten years old. I was used to having a pet around. It broke my heart coming home to an empty house. After stalking the Last Hope K9 Rescue website, Mr. Geek had an idea of some of the dogs he wanted to meet at the upcoming adoption event. I already knew … [Read more...] about 5 Things We Learned When We Rescued A Dog
That Time Mr. Geek Changed Our Whole Diet…
Back in 2015, Mr. Geek came home and announced, “Chrissy, we’re going on a paleo diet!” This was three years into our relationship. Mr. Geek and I had just taken the big step of moving into our first house together. The excitement was high. Warm fuzzies. “Playing” house. Snuggling every night. Love was in the air, but we were still navigating how to live together for the long haul. Since we were new to this part of our relationship and had no discussions of marriage at this point, I tried to strategize my response. “What’s this ‘we’ crap? WE aren’t going on a diet. YOU are going on … [Read more...] about That Time Mr. Geek Changed Our Whole Diet…
The Book That Made Me Rethink My Spending and Self Worth
If you follow me on Goodreads, you may have noticed I recently finished the book The Year of Less: How I Stopped Shopping, Gave Away My Belongings, and Discovered Life Is Worth More Than Anything You Can Buy in a Store by Cait Flanders. I initially ordered this book because I had attempted a shopping ban last year in my own way. I had told myself I was not going to buy any clothes for one full year. I made it six months, which was way better than I thought I would! Shopping for clothes has ALWAYS been an Achilles heel of mine. My closet and drawers would be bursting at the … [Read more...] about The Book That Made Me Rethink My Spending and Self Worth
The Beginning
Years ago, sitting in the bedroom of my college apartment, I was a college redshirt senior. I was on the brink of navigating the “real world” without the protected shelter of college. I was twenty-two years old competing in my final season of track and field for Massachusetts’ flagship university. I struggled to identify myself without the title of student-athlete--a title that brought me pride for nine years. I would not have gained many of the opportunities I received without athletics--and now it was done. I tried my hand at blogging about my experiences for both a collegiate pole … [Read more...] about The Beginning
